Water/fuel seperator again.

Now that boat is pretty much squared away, I am ready to buy and install the racor.

I am going to opt for the one without primr bulb.

I believe irish mentioned something about the stainless mount for it. Any link to that would be apreciated.

Also, what size stainless hose clamps should I be looking to get?

This is the racor I will be going with. Is this correct?

Hi Mboy,

Yes ... Racor with the see thru bulb (transom mount).

You will need:

1. The Racor separator and filter with bowl (it comes as a kit). What engine do you have (it matters)? Also, it is weird that there is no water separator on there already. Do you have pictures of the inside of you transom?

2. 3M 5200 FAST Cure (adhesive/chalk)

3. Qty. 4 - stainless clamps to 1 1/4" I believe.

4. A way to cut your fuel line (I use a PVC cutter).

5. You will need the barbs for the ports for the fuel like size that is installed on your boat (qty. 2).

6. I use teflon tape on the fittings. People will say no but I say yes.

7. Qty. 4 screws to mount assembly to the transom. Make sure you "OVER USE" the 5200. It does npt have to be pretty. It has to keep water from penetrating into the transom. Do not use sparingly.

I will look up what you need after I know the engine. Basically it is Mercury, Yamaha or other (I think).

I don't have pics of the transom, but I am 100000000% sure their is no water/fuel seperator (and surveryor told me he was shocked their wasn't one their as well).

Hi Mboy,

I am shocked too. I have installed many Racors for all new boats at a marina near my house.

I cannot find the stainless separator number. I have 3 West Marines and a Boater's World and a ton of marina shops near me. When I get back to the USA I can look. I don't have a stainless separator on one of my boats. I wish I went with it as the white powder coat does show "age." It is not real bad, don't get me wrong but I like my boats near mint looking and running.

If I see the part number on the web, I will post it. You may just have to go to a few places. This is a bad time for that "hit and miss" though. There are many places not stocking well this year.

I would buy an extra spin on filter to have on the boat as well.

Hi Mboy,

I put 2 clamps on every connection. Just my phobia ...

I use teflon tape on the threads of the fittings that screw into the separator.

Almost every boat I have ever worked on had room on the starboard side of the transom.

Bob, the battery is in the bilge, pretty much center and 2' or so from transom.

Next project after radio/speaker install is dual abttery and switch hookup.
May have to wait until spring tho.

Ok, got the unit today.
MUCH bigger then I thought it would be. Anyway, the bowl and filter sure are on their tight.

What size screws should I use to mount it? Thought I had ones big enough, but I don't.

Also, directions say NOT to use teflon tape on barb fittings.

Oh, their are 2 arrows, each point inward on either inlet side with 1 hole labeled out in the middle of the unit which is plugged with plastic plug.
I imagine this is the one that goes to engine (primer bulb) part of line?

Hi Mboy,

I have read their advice and ignore it. The teflon tape will not break down. But that is your decision. I prefer to have no place for air to get into the system or fuel to leak out.

I used #12 stainless screws by 1". That will depend on your transom. I cannot emphasize this enough ... use 3M 5300 Fast Cure Adhesive/chalk and make sure there is no way water will pentrate the transom through the screw holes.

Follow the arrows from the tank, to the primer bulb to your engine.

I will head over to my marina to check the boat and I will snap a picture.

Did you get the barbs for the gas lines?

Yes, I have the barbs. I will use the tape per your advice.

Both arrows point inward,lol. The out in center of bracket does not have an arrow. Either side potns inward,lol.

I have a 30z tube of 5200 fast on the way, so I will use all of it if I have to

Even if you don't put them on the barb screws, put it on the plugs for the unused ports.

If need be, I am only a cup of coffee away. I may have some tools and tricks to prime the system that frustrate folks.

Remember, install the filter filled with fuel (I put a contained under it in case I spill some when screwing it on).
