Rhode Island cod 2/1 and 2/3
« on: February 03, 2010, 08:07:38 AM »
Headed with my pop up to RI and fished with the Francis Fleet.  Day one  we were greeted with 6to8 footers and a steady blow of 20 plus. A little windy and rough but the boat laid great on anchor. The bite was all on bait with most keepers 24 to 26 inches and some 15lb fish mixed in. Limited  out and headed in early. Day 2 had much nicer weather but also 50 guys on the boat. Capt and crew handled the large crowd  surprisingly  well and there were few tangles. Fishing was just plan stupid with an avg size of 26 and 27 inch fish.Limit out and started giving fish away and tossing back  keepers. Again the bite was all on clams. The cod bite is about as good as it gets right now and  when you can get an avg size of  nice 10lb green fish its close to amazing.

Man, that sounded like fun! It's a shame you had to start throwing them back, but once you do you know it's the tell tale sign of a fantastic day! Great job out there.  chrz

Looking to get out soon, just wondering how have the worms been in the fish?  Hopefully very little, just wanted to know what to expect.

I looked into that last week ( got my head handed to me by the N.Y. guys very touchy about that )
But I did get some good feed back saying  not as bad as last year
We all know last year was horrible

On our Montauk trip I've found 2 worms out of about 8 or 9 fillets.....Wish I would have seen them before my wife did!

Capt hit a spot right at day break and laid on the anchor. I think you guys were still to the South East. Most of the stern had lock and load with the bow having a slow pick. The bite came to an end when another party boats anchor dragged across our stern. A quick move and then the fishing really got good. The numbers were stupid with a few guys in the 40's.Capt pulled off that spot( were all the boats were grouped ) due to to many fish ;D  Headed in early and was at the dock before 3pm with healthy boat limit. Pool fish was a legit 30lber. Any word on the Bounty Hunter?

The mates cleaned all my fish and when I got home I bagged and refridgerated them. Today I checked for worms and found some. I picked several out. They were all curled up and easy to see. Maybe had 7 or 8 in all of my fillets total. No more than 2 in any fillet. If you cook the fish they die or freeze same result. Do as I did ,carefully look them over. Just don't tell the wife or you might have to eat them all yourself.  clp  rofla  TT^

Bount Hunter did not fish on Tuesday nor did the Sea Otter IV as far as I know. We were a little late leaving the dock but were off before 4:30 AM and didn't get back till after 6PM. Didn't make it home till almost 1AM as we stopped to refresh and eat dinner. Long but wonderful day  t^

Numbers posted where of fish caught and not what they kept. I beleive they  gave fish to a few guys that were sick and stayed in the cabin. The mates are first class and help to police limits in a very profesional way
