I played the part of head JA on the SS Minnow, out for a shake down yesterday with Tombo at the helm. Jimbo and a box o donuts rounded out the crew.
Ol' Thunderbolt fired her way thru 2' chop in breezy overcast conditions, over to some supposedly fishy areas in WRB for the morning outgoing. Fresh clams were the offering, and we brought along salted stinkers and some chunky grubby things to pitch as well.
The bite was nonexistent, with box o donuts getting the most action, and it laid down nicely for the ride back to Leo's Nardo in the early afternoon. "NO TIDE" and "Dredge barge blocking the inlet" combined for a shallow retrieve. In the end it was Miller Lite edging out box o donuts for least in the box honors and a good time was had by all.
Couple observations of the day:
It used to take six pins to make 115hp.
Winter lack of practice, combined with trying to fling clams into the wind, makes an already marginal baitcaster into a backlashin fool. Just got done pickin that one out, and may just wind up scrappin it all.
I think the water temp is still a lil cold for a day bite.
