Build it and they will come?
« on: April 03, 2010, 03:18:06 PM »
Hobie wants to partner with me and sponsor a fishing tournament in Brigantine. Its kinda late to put something together for striper season so it might be a Fluke tournament. Is there any intrest here? Im trying to get a feel as to how many yak fishermen will show up.

Sorry Barrell for not responding, but, I am still new to the sport and not sure of myself as of yet.  Let me get through this season and if you have one next year I might be interested.

At this time I am putting on outriggers on the Hobie Quest as I like to do photography as well and the stability is an added confidence factor.

whs If I was a Yak'er I would make the trip. For the past several years I have fished in the Legion tournament with a friend who had a boat at the Elk's club in Brigantine. Will be there again this year for that one.  t^

Seems like a pretty new sport here in Jersey???
More than willing to hit the water anytime I'm free. I really really want to take a full day and troll about 3-5 miles off coast at some point, just to see what I can hook on to.

I see guys out there quite often in the summer. It's not unusual to see yakers in the ocean during the striper run.  t^

The sport is growing but as many of us newbies we are just starting to get use to the feel of the sport and boat.  With me I am still getting use to figuring out which is the bow and which is the stern and how to keep the thing from tipping... fcp

All joking aside, Being new to and slightly up there in age it ==== as easy as rowing a boat.  Especially with all the gear on board that well will be a goner if you tip and everything is not tethered or stowed.

I figure if I can get out this year twice as much as last year my 3rd year should be a lot better.

It would be great is a whole bunch of us could get out in the bay behind IBSP and have some fun slamming fish before the real surf season starts.

I fish mostly around Northern Barnegat bay and the Manasquan. I fish a Hobie Outback. I would be interested if the tournament included my area with local weigh-in. Lots of ifs ,I know but am unfamiliar with Brigantine waters

The way its normaly done is a waterproof map is handed out to everyone at the start. I would mark it up with color on all the spots that I know hold fluke.
