Capt. Alan asked me to post this report for him and he'll add to it later.
Myself, Anthony, Capt. Alan Beneroff joined Capt. Alan aborad the new Reel Class..
Headed north once we broke the inlet and came upon some life just north of Shark River. I started off using a 5 ounce Krocodile spoon and on my first drop for stripers of 2010 I hooked about 1/4 of the way back to the boat. Good omen I thought but as Capt. Alan grabbed hold of the leader to put the fish aboard the leader broke and the fish swam away. It looked to be a border line keeper. A few minutes late, Capt. Alan put a 30" in the box. The little action we had died afterward and we moved north. Started fishing again just north of the outer buoy at the Rocks. Once again I hooked up immediately. this fish was just short. A few more drifts and a few more fish went in the box. We started to head back south when we got a call to come back. Once back in the area the gannets were in full diving bombing mode. Multiple hook ups around the boat. The frenzy didn't last long perhaps 20 minutes but it was long enough for each of us to bring several fish to the boat. After that it went back to a pick. Ended the day with a boat limit. Nothing really big with the keepers in the 30-32" class. Brought about 2 dozen fish to the boat. Most fish came on big Krocodile spoons with a few falling for shads.
