Pt. Beach 5/10 P.M.
« on: May 11, 2010, 03:04:16 PM »
Wife let me out for an hr or so  last night to get some of the good fishing conditions in (New moon phase and Large Cows in area).  Hit Point around 9 until 1015.  To bumbs on some metal spoons and about 8 skats  nosmly.

Lessons learned:
1. I def can cast a metal lure a hell of a lot further then a sinker and clams.
2. I need to work on using lures MUCH more.  I have little if no idea what I am doing.
3. Do spoons (more specific, KROCS, work at night?)

Looking to get out tonight for some fishing and possible Thursday morning.  What does everyone think?

Happy Fishing to anyone that gets out, I am hoping for my first keep (wishing it be 30+ lbs) this week.   ::)

The trouble with fishing is it was better before you got there, and after you left.
When in doubt...exaggerate

Surf fishing can look to be  difficult when the fish are "not" there. Many times during the spring when the bunker show up so do the big bass but if you don't see much it's hard to know what's up. THe bait and wait game can be boring but it does produce. Lures that immitate bunker like big wood swimmers with metal lips and pencil poppers are 2 of the basic type lures that have caught many big bass.  1. Swimmers at night. 2.Poppers during the day,if you see bunker be ready with a snag to snag&drop. 3. Most times metal lures are for daytime, except in fall when coupled with a teaser. Be ready for anything. Carry a variety of basic lures. Good Luck ! ;D

I will use metal at night when you have a nice full, bright moon.  Working that in the surf, you can get good light reflection and then it looks just like the bait reflecting the light...besides that, at night, plugs, storm shads, bombers, etc...

Light and sight at night are not used as much as the lateral lines, and scent.  That is why the swimmers work so well reeled slow.  I had a chance to see this with a swimmer the other day.  I was reeling in slow and saw a big blue following the lure.  As the swimmer went from side to side the fish swam to the same rhythm.

At night you want something that has movement or makes noise or has a scent to it.  Metals like AVA's work well if fished slow but moving, as the tail hook gives the movement the fish can latch on to, as it moves back and forth.

This is my own $.02

Happy Catching
