I met Lee (aka The Kup) at 6 am at Keyport Marine Basin.
Dock lines off at 6:15 am.
The wind was out of the NW & it was quite brezzy.
We left Keyport Harbor & on our way to the spot we saw Birds working off of Union Beach.
We jigged for abit and caught Bluefish.No Bass so we moved.
I pointed Lee in right direction and as soon as we got to the area Lee's Fishfinder lit up.We had solid Bass marks on the Screen and there were no other boats near us.We set out 2 lines 1 with a Blue & Silver Stretch 25 & the other combo with a Maja Spoon.
Within mintues the Rod with the Maja spoon doubled over & we boated our 1st Keeper.We worked the same spot & once again the rod with the maja spoon doubled over.Lee reels in the Fish & it's another keeper Bass.We set the lines out again and once again the rod with the spoon gets hit again.Lee grabbed the rod & it looked like a Big Fish.The line was peeling but after a short battle the Bass spit the hook.Lines in again and the rod with the spoon gets nailed.Lee grabs the rod & I said Lee get this fish in.Lee huffed & puffed and boated a 25 lb Bass.The Bass was loaded with eggs we took pictures & Lee released the Bass.Since the rod with the stretch 25 wasn't getting hits we only trolled maja spoons.At 9am we had enough so we made a move and dropped anchor.Started a slick & let me tell you we had **** condtions for anchoring we swung back and forth and I knew we weren't going to catch this way.Lee was under the weather so we both decided we had enough & called it a day.
On our way to KMB we saw a small boat in trouble.
2 guys were rowing trying to make it back to the Keyport ramp.They alomst drifted into the pilings.We helped them out & towed them in as close to the ramp.
I know I said I would rather watch paint dry over trolling but let me tell you I am now hooked on trolling maja spoons !
