Irish Ayes Lack Of Bass 6-8-10
« on: June 08, 2010, 10:09:43 PM »
Had FishOn42 Mark, his dad Mark, Adam and Jeff on the boat today. Had visions of big bass flopping over the side of the boat. Was not meant to be.

Broke the inlet shortly before noon and headed north to look for bunker. Got into some very small pods and was able to put only six in the well. Tried many different spots looking for bait. The only thing we really found was no fewer than six bunker boats roaming the area.

Funny thing, didn't see one of them put a net in the water. Seems they were looking just as hard as us. They even had their spotter plane in the air. Perhaps they have already taken most of the bunker out of the water? Or perhaps the bunker just moved up north.  5hrug

With the six bunker we had we tried to liveline for bass. No use wasting any more time chasing ghosts and not try putting a bass in the boat.

Drove all over the ocean testing different spots. Didn't get a sniff. Had good marks in only one area and that did not pan out.

At one point I put out a fluke rod and sent a rig down to the ocean floor. Had a bucktail teaser on along with a Gulp belly strip. Pulled in a 17 1/2" fluke for my efforts. Released to grow to keeper size.

Tried our best but just couldn't put anything together today. Covered a lot of miles and burned a lot of fuel. Same outcome from many other boats going by the radio chatter. Didn't hear of one boat catching any bass and most also had a hard time finding bunker.

Will be back at it Friday.  t^

Joe, we all had a great time, and it was great to be out there on a beautiful day.... Except for that northeast wind once in a while and the clouds which made it cold! Its to bad we couldn't get into any bass is right, you motored around as best as you could too hook us up, just wasn't meant to be. I had a good run off but missed that, and a small run off and didn't get a chance to set the hook. Went to Kleins after for some scallops and beer though! We'll get them next time, thanks for your effort!

Good try guys, but it sounds like it was that way all over.  The bunker are all over the place but in most cases there is nothing following them.  I have a feeling that they are just to full of everything and need a good storm to take them off the easy bite to not allow them to feed for a day.  That day might be Thursday and hopefully Friday the feed bag will be on as the New Moon is Saturday and Sunday.  We'll see.

Happy Catching

Nice effort Joe - a lot of guys had the same results as you did. It would seem to be the lack of bait caused by all of these bunker boats. Best of luck out there and catch em up.
