Tailing redfish on the fly
« on: June 11, 2010, 05:05:16 PM »
During my myrtle beach vacation I decided to give the flats in SC a try with Capt. Steve Thomas.  Only a 40 min. drive south past Georgetown I arrive to Hobcaw Barony, a 17,500 acre preserve with 8,000 acres of flats.  We had tailing reds in front of us the first 30 minutes into the trip.  First cast was right on the money, set and pulled the hook.  Winds started to pick up more and I did a blind cast into the area while waiting to see some more tails.  Waited a little while and started to strip in the fly.  Bam..  fish on.  The next two hours were fighting the ever increasing winds with no tails in sight.  If it was calm, it would have been game on...    If you ever go to myrtle go to the website gofishsc.com and click on the Hobcaw Barony link.  Email address for Capt Thomas is steveth@sccoast.net.  Well worth the $250.00, a great experience for me  TT^.  O, and by the way... he is the only guide allowed to fish the preserve.  It was just us out on the flats!!  Pretty awesome
There's a fine line between fishing and just standing on the shore like an idiot
