Fishing in Virginia?
« on: June 14, 2010, 11:25:10 PM »
I'm taking the family on vacation to Virginia at the end of this month.  Although this won't be a fishing vacation, I've never fished in Virginia, and I'd like to take one day (or morning) and do some fishing down there (either salt or fresh).

Does anyone here have any advice on where to go, what's hot and who to contact?  We will be staying in Williamsburg, if that helps any.

Thanks,
Bob

I used to go to Cherrystone camp ground down there.  The best part is, the species are the same, just bigger.  Crabbing is great also.  I fished under the long bridge.  You will get alot of croakers, huge sand shark, weakfish, very large fluke and Drum.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Cape Charles, Va.

The campground is on the Chesapeake with lots of fish opportunities.  They do cabin rentals in addition to the trailer sites.

Bob,
If you go to Cherrystone, fish the middle pier after dark. Some big fish show up then. Also if you want to catch some big crabs, there is a path to the right of the tackle shop. Walk down that path about 100 yards and you will find some deeper water and good big crabs.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

If you have a boat with you, there is some good fishing water about 5 minutes away on the ocean side.
