IF YOU CAN GET TO THEW BEACH NOW ! ! !
« on: June 17, 2010, 12:51:44 PM »
I just left about an hour ago and the bunker were just on the outside of the outer bar from A@# to about 1/2 way tho the inlet.

Not only that but there were fish breaking allover them.  The problem was I had to get off the beach to get my Uncle back.  But with that said the bite was all up north this morning.  Mantalokin to be exact.  Big Ed of Big Ed's Lures caught a 47+ # striper on yep you guessed it a live line snagged bunker.

It looks like this afternoon the stripers are hungry for the oily ones.  And by the looks of it if they move within casting range it will be a free for all out there.

The water has a little weed in it but very manageable. The wind is the problem as it is out of the west with gusts over 25.  Great for casting but if you go bring the bug spray, you will need it big time.

There are very few boats out front due to the wind as the waves are not to bad 1 to 2' but as you come in the inlet you will be tested as far as your skills as a boatman.  The CG was out and having fun as well.

Let us know how you do if anyone gets out.

Happy Catching

Paul

The trouble with fishing is it was better before you got there, and after you left.

If you have a snag hook it is a lot cheaper than buying bunker.  Especially when they are in so close.  I have to tell you that we were using fresh bunker today and they did not want it.  But if you live lined a fresh snagged bunker and let it drop under the school you were catching.  Go figure.

The only issue I see with this is, what if i cant reach the bunker or worse, there isnt any.  rgmn.  I dont think clams are really workign anymore, not for the keepers atleast.  Dont really want to get/try frozen, dont think it would work to well.....

Thanks for the info tho paul!
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Nick, its called family obligation...

I go fishing with my uncle every Thursday or at least once a week.  We were out there starting at 4:30.  We tried everything but nothing seemed to work.  You could see the bunker about 1/4 mile off the beach but nothing was smashing them not even the birds were out there.

As the day went on the schools were starting to get closer but still to far from the beach.  I met up with a regular and friend of mine to chat and he received a call that the fish were biting up in Mantalokin this was around 10:30 so he went north ans we stayed because it was almost time we got off the beach so my uncle could head back home (in Sayerville) to pick up his grandson from school.

We tried a few more places but nothing seemed to be landing.  At around 11:00 we noticed that there were fish breaking on the outside of the outer bar not far from A23.  As we got closer to the exit the school was still there, oh I would have to say that although the school was broken up the line had to be about 1/4 mile long.  Bot we had to go.  We had to air up and get to the house and transfer my uncle's gear to his truck.

So there you have the story, do I wish I had the time to stay and pound the fish, you bet, but in our family the young ones come first.  It is all good as I know a few of my friends took my advice and were on the fish later in the day.

Happy Catching
