Same as Yesterday...
« on: June 18, 2010, 11:39:42 AM »
It seems like the same thing is setting up just like yesterday.  Bunker everywhere but just out of reach till the tide comes in.  It seems like the outer bars are holding bunker till enough water is over them to allow them to gain access the the trough just inside.

Once inside it is a free for all.  If you can get to any of the beaches from Bay Head south try as it is big bass all over right now.

Pencil Poppers were the plug of choice yesterday.  with snag and drop second.  Chunks and heads for get about it.

I hope this helps as I am trying to get out in the afternoon for a little while.

Happy Catching

Paul

I can't help it if the reports are the same.  If you want me to stop posting just say so...

But the friends I hang with are reliable and do catch fish simply because they are out there all the time.  There are a group of retired guys that rely on each others reports to each other and not the B&T's.  Although some are better than others.

I am one of the closest to the beach so I am home more than most and I post a few times a day on the conditions.  I will gladly refer to the phone tag as I have in the past.

You guys have to get out and fish more, this cabin fever is lingering to long.  Right now I am out on an average of 3 times a week and I am catching fish.

Happy Catching

Paul

Rod it took many years to get into this great group of guys.  They all are protective of their information.  I have spent tons of years here since childhood and made a lot of good friends I am trying to pass along information that is about as fresh as it is going to get.

If you want to see video clips of some bass that were caught yesterday and were posted today, go to Betty & Nicks.  Theirs is a day old as mine was less than hour old.

There was one bass caught yesterday over 52 lbs.

Happy Catching

Paul

ped.. I didn't know these reports were second hand reports from the bait store.. I thought you were on the beach when these blitz's happen.

When I say I am killing the bass, that means I'AM killing the bass and not that someone else is killing them and I am just relaying the report..

just a little confusing, thats all.

Yesterday I was on the beach and when I say the bass are hitting the bunker on the outer bar I don't know how much more info you want.

I was given further information from reliable sources that fish were literally on the beach.  I trust these guys, sorry if you do not.

Rod you are partially right.  They know I am on here but have faith in me that I will not divulge some of their top secrets.

That is the code of the surf since I was a little kid.  Today's surf fisherman have been caught in a time warp and for the most part has not got out of the 50's.  There is a group of about 15 to 20 guys that have been fishing together for many years.  Either they have worked together or grew up together and now fish together.  Getting into this group is a very hard door to pass through.  But once you do the information that is shared if better than any web site out there.

Look at it as the first fishing social network.  Unlike boats that have radios to help each other out, the surf rat has only the telephone (cell phone now) or the Bait & Tackle shop.  That is why the B&T was and still is one of the best places to gather the freshest beach information.  If you are an insider the info usually means the fact that either you are catching or your not.

Yes the B&T's do exaggerate but once you are looked upon as a loyal customer the true information starts to flow.  In the 50's there were groups that would almost be like secret societies, impenetrable, highly cliquish, but very loyal to each other and the shop they call home.

The guys I hang with (sounds like a gang) are from all over the state a few are guides, some produce some great lures and just about all are highly trustworthy.  I have known a number if these guys for years and as new shops come and go many have levitated to Grumpy's B&T.  Why? who knows I guess it is the robust info that you get once you break that inner circle.

Boating is great but until you have experienced the comradery of the surf rats, the loyalty to one another's judgment, you have not nor will you reach your full potential as a surf rat.

I bust a lot of people on the out of towner thing but until you have earned the right you will always be an outsider.  Many of these guys have boats but there is nothing like pulling up to the posse on the beach and have them recognize you as one of them, you have not lived. This is my own personal opinion.  I have put my time in and now I have to give out information in a delicate way.

I hope that clears up a number of things here.  If not, well I am sorry if I have offended someone but that is the life of a surf rat in a nut shell.  I would not give that feeling up for anything.

So when I tell the board that fish are biting they are biting, weather it comes from first hand knowledge or from one of my friends you can always treat it as it has come from me.

Summer is almost here and the beaches will be very crowded, more than usual I am afraid.  The beach at IBSP is still very soft above A23 so be careful if you venture out as the fee for getting pulled starts at around $200.00 and up to $1000.00.  I will not venture to help pull anyone out as this year everyone will have to make due with the beach as it is.  Like they say you will be crammed into a little tiny place, as I believe they have not cut back on the amount of BB passes.

But if you do get stuck it is nice to give a call or shout out and some one will be there to help dig your way out.  Nice felling, of Ohana (family in Hawaiian) once your in.  So if you are stuck out there jot down my information from the site and if I can help I will.

Happy Catching

Paul

The only thing I don't trust about bait and tackle reports, even though the store may be telling you the truth, we don't know if they are getting the truth from the people who are telling them.  Now it becomes second and third hand reports..

It's almost like opening the APP's hook, line and sinker,or the Fisherman magazine and take reports from others in there and add them to the site.   The best part of a site like this is that the reports come from the catch you actually catch or witness.  I might trust my friend to give me a good report, but not sure if the report he received came from an accurate sorce.

The best report and most accurate report anyone can give, is the report of their actual catch.

WE don't have enough Member Reports from IBSP and any area for the Surf..

If we had 10-20 reports a day.  we wouldn't need the second hand reports.  best we can do for now.  I like them t^
