Irish Ayes-past several days
« on: June 29, 2010, 08:40:05 PM »
Had the Irish Ayes out a couple of times over the past several days. Fishing has been s-l-o-w for us. Some keepers here and there, lots of shorts. Nothing to get excited about. Both fluke and seabass. Stripers very scarce also.

Today we were outside of the rocks fluke fishing when a thresher picked up Dave's fluke bait (searobin belly) and ran with it. Took a turn, went under the boat and made two jumps. Very neat to see.

Dave kept pressure on the shark, estimated to be about six+ feet long. The hook eventually pulled from the shark ending what was the highlight of the day.

Will be out again on Thursday. Don't know what we will target yet.

Awesome Joe, another thresher huh? What a sweet thing to see is right... Catch em up!
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

Fine efforts Joe.. TT^  those Thresher encounters must be a blast..I heard a couple other reports of them on the radio last weekend.. I'd love to tangle with one.. I think I'll keep a sharking outfit ready on Fluka  just in case we're lucky enough to run into one..  t^  chrz

if the public had any idea of how many sharks there were between Sandy Hook and Cape May, the beaches would still be full, but the water would be empty. THOUSANDS of sharks----all types, right now. There is no need to go 30 miles off to shark. If someone set up on Deal or the rocks with shark gear, I am convinced that people would be very suprised.

We catch shark off the beach at night a lot, especially now with the water temps up there.  In fact we will be going out tonight in ghe Ortley - Lavallette area to see what happens.  Best time to catch sharks is at night, the same as stripers.

Happy Catching
