rouge/tourney blues
« on: July 05, 2007, 10:25:05 PM »
hi guys,
looking ahead to the upcoming bluefish tournaments has me wondering how to go about getting out of the cookie cutter schools of blues and target those big mean rouge bluefish. I hear these antisocial meanies exist out there but does anybody have any tips on where to find them? thanks in advance for any tips.

big bait = big fish.....i have always gotten the bigger fish when i head off shore for them...but i have always caught the bigger guys in the mix with the smaller ones...i think its hard to target just big ones as blues are school fish and the big guys are with the small guys....but the biggets bluefish i have ever gotten was a 17 lb brtue that was caught off the keyport #1 can about 6 years ago...we were just fluking and i decided to throw a bunker chunk out to see what would happen and we got him, amazing fight.....sorry to go off on a tangent, but i have always had good luck with the bigger blues at the 17 fathoms, ba bouy, farms, and drifting over random structure

thanks for the info! i've had my best luck with blues at the barnegat ridge. I have seen some diffrence in the size but nothing drastic yet. on the party boat I see alot of the same size fish and have even seen a few draws where 2 people ended up splitting the money. i'd love to  target the monsters though, especially for tournaments.
