7/3-4 -- 10YFT and 160LB Mako
« on: July 04, 2010, 05:24:08 PM »
We headed out for our first overnight this year after being sidelined for a couple weeks waiting for a part.

We got out to the Carteret around 2:30pm and worked our way south.  At 5 pm we got covered up with nice yellowfins and landed 6 between 40 and 60 pounds.

Continued to work the area and got a couple more shots of 1s and 2s.  The encouraging thing was that every time we had a shot, 5 or more baits got hit, but for some reason we'd only hook up with 2 or 3.  So the fish are there and they were hungry.

We ended up with 10 by 7:30pm and got set up for the night.  The wind was blowing a little more than expected so some were feeling a little uncomfortable...

At 1:30am my wife and i were looking at the sounder on the bridge and she spotted a mako swimming through the slick.  It was the fireman's shuffle down the ladder just to get a pitch bait to the fish.

After swimming by the mackeral initially the mako inhaled it once it was 40 feet away from the boat.

After an uncomfortably quick 5 minute fight I stuck the 74.5" mako and brought it on board once it was safe.

With plenty of fish in the boat and 5 people feeling nauseous we decided to pack it in and head home.

From what I understand the morning bite was on fire!!  Nice going to those who got them!!

As soon as I'm sent pictures I'll get them up.  We have a lot of action shots of yellowfin coming over the rails.

We've got room for a couple more on a split-charter leaving Monday morning at 11am and returning early afternoon Tuesday.  We'll be sharking at night with a sword bait or two if the conditions are right.

Give me a call or shoot me an email for details!!
