SEASIDE PARK — Beaches for several miles north of Island Beach State Park were closed for hours today after two sharks were spotted swimming near the shorelines, authorities said.

Surfers first reported five-foot-long sharks just off the surf break around 10 a.m. at Seaside Park, said Joe Gomulka, head of the Beach Patrol there. Gomulka said the sharks cruised the beach for about four hours, at some points coming as close as about 20 yards offshore.

Seaside Park beaches were reopened about 2 p.m., but reports of what are believed to be the same sharks closed down beaches at Seaside Heights, the next town north on the coast, for much of the afternoon.

Gomulka said the sharks were not positively identified, but their unusual swimming patterns raised the question of whether or not they may have been sick or injured.

Every summer has its own unique pattern, Gomulka added, and "2010 appears to be the summer of the shark."
no one said life is going to be perfect; build a bridge and get over it.

Cool --- I wonder what kinda sharks they were  5hrug
Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.

I am suprised that this did not make the news last week when they spotted way more sharks. Ask the guys at the pier what they have been seeing lol. Most of the stuff being caught are 40 lb browns. I have not heard of any thing really large but a decent bite most nights. Looks like the surf sharks guys are really starting to mobilize this week so maybe we hear of some big boys this week. I know it's game on when they start coming for 50 to a 100 seabass racks every other day.

2 weeks ago there was a great white spotted on the seagirt and yes last week a pup was spotted near the pier. I have not seen any good pictures yet from this year but last year there was many pics and plenty of great white sightings inshore . Just ask Capt Jerry from Fishmonger about his close encounter

My friends and I were supposed to go to Seaside today but at the last minute everyone changed their mind and said that we were going to Sandy Hook. I was confused and asked why and it turns out my friend's girlfriend is afraid of sharks. Seriously? I was pissed. Who wants to go to Sandy Hook when you can go to Seaside. Whats crazy is that most people dont understand that these sharks wont do anything.
