Hot bite on the reef
« on: July 22, 2010, 12:30:58 AM »
Broke the inlet after a late start and headed for some deepwater reefs. made it to garden state south by 8am . Got to the reef and seemed like pretty decent conditions with wind and drift. Went to the usual tails and meat and kept busy with shorts for a hour or two with some sea bass coming over as well. Decided we had enough playing with the shorts and tried a new fluke rig i made last week and have been itching to try. No sooner did it hit the bottom and BAM 27'' slob came over the rail. Dropped it back down and within 2 minutes again BAM 24'' fat one over the rail. Spent the next 2 hours picking away at keepers for 11 total for 2 guys in just under 4 hours. Then the bite slowed and my arm was tired so we called it a day. total for the day 27'',25'',25''24'' 22'' and 6 more at about 20''-23''

Thanks guys,

we have made several trips to all the reefs from little egg up to the point and keepers have been scarce. tried all the normal stuff squid/killies, gulp, tails and meat, but only a keeper here and there. worked on a few idea's I had last week and tried them yesterday after the regulars failed again. You would have thought someone turned a switch on it happeded that fast.

Did you bait that?    Hoe did you set that up?

Its a home made rig. It was a lazy bite so I waited that split second longer before setting the hook.
