I'm not a boater, but this doesn't seem very smart cfzd?  Very lucky that a wife called...mine would have left me out at sea forever ::)!

CAPE MAY — The Coast Guard says it rescued four people whose 22-foot fishing boat ran out of gas about 70 miles east of Cape May.

The Coast Guard said it received a call at 1:05 p.m. Sunday from a woman who said her husband had not returned from a Saturday fishing trip. His truck and trailer were still at the boat ramp.

The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter, a search plane and the cutter Mako to conduct a search. The C-130 aircraft spotted the boat at about 10:20 p.m. using an advanced radar system.

The occupants were taken aboard the Mako, and their boat towed to shore. Their identities were not released.

Coast Guard Capt. Todd Gatlin urged boaters to equip their vessels with a marine band radio and global positioning device, which this boat did not have.

Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!

70 miles offshore with no radio or GPS in a 22 foot boat that probably had a 50 gallon fuel tank.  Un-frickin-real!!!!!!

Some people should not own a boat. He had to business to be out that far. A 22' boat most likely as a 85-90 gallon gas tank 5hrug.

Sometimes I wonder if we should allow nature's attempt to rid ourselves of the insanely stupid in order to strengthen the overall herd take its course.   rgmn

I mean, come on! If you've taken your boat out even once you know that it burns fuel pretty heavily and you might not make it 30 miles out and back.  This guy probably took his maiden trip and thought "hey, let's go tuna fishing 100 miles offshore" with no radio or GPS.  Ok, so one stupid person with a dimwit idea is one thing, but he had 3 friends that went right along with him!
