surf fluke?
« on: August 04, 2010, 10:08:35 AM »
hey guys, a couple fluke questions for ya, I've been out a few times this year, (work is really overloaded) but seem to be getting skunked on the flukes.  But i've really gotten swamped with skates. I've been throwing fluke rigs with squid, and jigs tipped with gulp mullets...nada. do the skate push out the fluke or am i in the wrong arena? And i got a report that the fluke have been on the wash, does that mean like right up on shore in the breakers? laying ontop the bars?  5hrug

they are there, just hard to catch from the surf.  If your getting skates and not fluke, that means your not moving the bait enough.  Fluke fishing by boat, you have to drift, fluke fishing by surf, you have to cast and jig back and keep moving down the beach.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.
Call Nick for open boat, 973-417-5756, or on Channel 68.

Sounds like your using the right stuff.
Keep the bait moving and try different spots.  Look for cuts in the bar and deep spots.

As Luna said, "Keep (your bait) moving".  Also, try casting more parallel with the beach.  Many fluke will be right in the wash, so keep fishing right up onto the beach.  You may be surprised at how many fluke are that tight to the shore. t^
