We were out this past Saturday into Sunday on an overnight Open Boat Canyon Trip. We stopped at the 30 fathom line when we saw tuna busting all over the surface chasing bait. We were in a hurry running offshore, but couldn't resist this. So as fast as Seafood goes, she can stop on a dime when we see something like this. We immediately put a nice bluefin in the box. Very quickly we had three more that were released. Even though they were still boiling under bait we all voted to continue off to find something different. We pulled into the Hudson on the east side where I read some good water and set up for the night. It was an active night, but not for tuna. We caught a small mako, a big blue shark, and an 8' hammerhead shark. A few mahi kept us busy all night as well. Up on the troll in the AM we were attacked by skippies as they were hard to shake. Then we knew we had some nice fish when both 36" Sterling Tackle splash bars went down at the same time. We boated two yellofin tunas. Trolling on we raised a huge blue marlin that changed his mind at the last minute and two whites that thought twice as well. Finally, we got one two stick... A really nice white decided he wanted a Sterling Tackle rainbow daisy chain. This one was approximately 85 Lbs. All in all, everyone had a great time. Our next offshore "open Boat" tuna trip is scheduled for Saturday September 5th to Sunday September 6th. Capt. John
