Another unschuled oil change!!!!!
« on: August 18, 2010, 02:31:02 PM »
Looks like I'm gonna have to change the timing cover seal Sat. Arrr! The last trip out I had oil all over the front of the engine and it looks like it was flung in a circle all over. I'm gonna assume that the harmonic balancer flung it around.  gonna change the chain and gears while I'm in there. so much for fishing Sat. Well the kids can do some crabbing and I'll set them up wit some bobbers and minnows so they can fish for some snappers in the crik. 5hrug

Thanks Matt! Plastic timing chain cover? WTF? And finding one was like trying to get Osama's address! Mystic Island, long beach Island, Tuckerton, ect. After a two hour chase I figured I'd put a metal one on it! According to someone I spoke with you can do it without dropping the pan but you have to cut some of the cover to get it back in. It seemed to work out OK, Just gotta go back down and fill it wit oil and test run it. I wanted to give the silicone a chance to set up! Fingers crossed!!!

R u sure the oil is coming from the crank seal??
Cause sometimes if the PCV valve or a breather for the crank case gets clogged oil will come out of the strangest places(dip stick tube etc)
What about the fuel pump if the diaphragm is perforated (a double diaphragm) oil will leak down to the balancer and look like its leaking there
Any water in the oil? oil leaking from the head or intake manifold?
I'm only asking cause you can keep on replacing parts till you find the right one, or identify the problem and correct it.

The only reason I ask is, it doesn't sound like youv'e isolated the problem. Good luck

I also see a pump for the power assist steering. Are the hoses and connections sound? Are you sure it's motor oil thats leaking ?

The timing cover looks like it was removed before and reused nosmly White silicone on the gasket, It says right on it... replace upon removal. It was loose too. And it is plastic cfzd I just hope that I got the new one sealed good so I can get in a few more trips before I gotta tow it home! I will know soon, I hope to go out tomorrow! Thanks.
