Reco me a good, flexible fillet knife please
« on: July 10, 2007, 05:57:56 PM »
I believe the Dexter Russell 9" wood handle fillet knives are real good.

Thoughts, opinions or reco's?
Is the blade on the DR 9" rubber handle the same as the 9" wood handle?

Something else I shopuld be looking at?

Thanks.

They are great knives but you do have to keep them oiled so they do not rust.  I believe the blade on the 'rubber' handled knives are stainless but they do not work as well for filleting.

just FYI with a little story....i almost bought a dexter russel knife which are very expensive...but decided to just buy a accu-sharp knife sharpener and it is one of the bet things i have on my boat...i have made all my $5 fillet knives razor sharp....and instanly saw an improvement in my fillets...i would highly reccomend getting this knife sharpener and sharpening your older knives then see if that doesnt do the trick then get a new knife...but the knife sharpener has not failed me yet.

1.Keep it oiled
2. DO NOT PUT IT IN THE "PLERS" HOLDER ON BAIT BOARD IT WILL FALL THROUGH !!!
3. It does NOT float.. I dont care how long you stare at the water.. Wife will still giggle her A$$ off  !!
 Buying ANOTHER Friday $18  :'(

I don't think $20 is a lot for a knife that will last you YEARS of filleting fish.  I can't even tell you how many fish I filleted with mine...1000s, still going...although the blade is getting thinner and thinner (better and better for fluke filleting) as I use those horrible metal shaving sharpeners.  I bought another one though, just to have in case I lose my main one.

I like Joey's deal though...$5 in the offseason?  Same 2333-9s?  That's a friggin bargain!

Just ordered one with n accu-sharp knife/hook sharpener last night.

No plans to drop it overboard.

I will proably keep it in my car and only use it to fillet fish for table. Just take itout of car when I go up to fillet station at marine.

I have others to cut bsit on boat.
