What is the best inlet from the Toms River Bridge?
« on: August 30, 2010, 11:49:41 AM »
Just put in a bid on a house in Toms River, located just next to the Seaside Bridge.  I am wondering how far is Barnegate inlet is by water, or if there is a closer inlet north of the bridge.  I am debating to "possibly" give up my slip in Atlantic Highlands and move my fishing life to the Barnegate area.

Nice.    Birch runs out of seaside park and used Bi. and Manisquan.

I just plotted them both out to 14 Miles each from the Bridge.  The BI is an easier run for open water and minimal No Wakes..

Manasquan m you need to go through the PP Canal.

But it's good to have choices like that..  you can fish the rocks.. to GSS t^

For inshore you have Monster's Ledge.. to The Chicken Canyon.

Capt. Birch can give his 2 cents..  That's where he is t^

Like Rod said you are about half way for either inlet.  I used the Manasquan a lot simply because it was in the area I wanted to fish more.  But the BI was good in the Spring and the Fall for stripers.

We had a house on Silver Bay which is not to much of a difference from where you are.  But I have to say there is more open water to run going south to the BI.  A lot of no wake zones and the Mantalokin Bridge plus the canal could be a pain sometimes going north.

the huge decision I am going to have is, giving up my Atlantic Highlands slip or keep it.  I am torn.  I like the fishing better in AH, easy ocean access, but my time will be split between the boat and the shore house.  I will use the boat more if I was brought it to the shore house, but my fishing will me limited compared to AH.

Rod, what inlet do you leave from.  Little Egg? or Barny?

Like Rod said its about the same from the bridge. You burn less fuel running out of Manasquan due to the no wake areas. Its about 50 minutes to the inlet(Manasquan) and 30 to BI. The bays are shallow and you will need to use caution when learning a new area. A whole different world than up in Raritan bay and a whole different style of fishing. I like the options the TR area has(bay /ocean) but the long runs from the inlet can get tiresome. Raritan area offers one of the best fisheries on the coast(for a giant mud puddle thats amazing) so Barnegat bay may seem like a let down. The fishing can be awesome but it will take time to learn spots and technique. To me there is no place I would rather be. Please feel free to give me a call or email if I can help answer any questions and best of luck with the new house.

Maybe 2 boats ?????? ;D
