YSA Fluke 9/6
« on: September 07, 2010, 11:33:18 AM »
Left the marina at ludicrous:30, figured to get outside before the fleet, clean up all the keeper fluke from the bottom, and be back before it got insane out there. On board were my bride and Tony "Da Killer."

Smooth ride, got to the spot as the outgoing was just getting going. Set up on the channel edge where we drifted SE. Nice day, cool until the sun got crankin'.

Bailed fish nonstop. More than a few times we all had fish on simultaneously. Couple times I was so busy netting and unhooking I couldn't even wet a line myself. One long drift from SH 5 down past the 1 produced 3 keepers, 9 that were 17-18" and 37 short shorts.

The fleet began to appear and da Killer was feeling a little queasy, but insisted on tuffin' it out as we continued to catch. Repeated the drift on the red side this time to avoid the crowd. Similar results but no keeps on drift 2.

Went back up for another drift, but Killer kept calling for Ralph, and the walltowall boats became too much, so we called in the second Hunter to our spot and hitailed it back to Keyport. Short day but productive, final tally 3 keeps, 19 fish 17-18" (thick too, what a shame,) 47 short shorts and 3 robbins. Saw 3 huge rays go by about 2 feet deep, very cool. Fish preferred killies today over squid and Gulp!

Too bad we don't have another month- it seem like the flukin is just getting going.

Good job on the shortened trip Warren.  t^

We do need a few more weeks added to the end of the season. Hopefully next season can be longer with the added quota we should see.  5hrug
