TBJ is gonna give Surf Fishing a go!
« on: September 07, 2010, 12:24:17 PM »
I've been a "boat fisherman" for a while now and love it BUT gonna try the surf fishing thing too! 2 of my buddies, who are advent surf guys and big into skishing, finally convinced me to give it a go.
So, I just came back from Fisherman's Supply in PPB with a 9' Medium Action Mojo stick and a Spheros 8000FB reel which I had spooled with Suffix 40# braid. This set up felt the most "natural" to me and Suffix braid was recommended after telling the guy (Ron was off) I did not want 30# PP due to my own personal experiences of wind knots w/ PP. Next up a wetsuit but one step at a time for me.
Might be hitting the sand tonite but not sure yet and then getting on my boat in the morning. Wish me luck guys! TT^

Good luck with the new adventure Joe.
I am a has-been surf guy myself. Only went in the fall. Many, many years ago. Stopped going when I started pouring $$$ into boats.  :P

Good Luck Joe...BTW I have PP on all my reels and never had a problem with wind knots.  They usually occur if the spool is filled to much and or you are using to light of weight.  But any way, good luck.  I heard today that croakers are in the surf so if you want to catch anything you can target them.  Small hooks on a HI -LO rig will work just fine.

Do not use a big glob of bait either.

So right now the surf is becoming alove with different types of fish once again.  So it is anyone's guess what you will catch.

Happy Catching

Paul

PS; if you can't find clams Grumpy's in SSP just got a shipment in today.
