tuna question
« on: September 22, 2010, 08:20:08 PM »
I am new to the world of tuna fishing and was wondering about how long the the bluefin and mahi will be sticking around on "inshore" spots (mudhole, chicken canyon, etc...).  Thanks!

Welcome Aboard Fluke...  I don't know the Correct answer to that.  but I do know they will be moving a little closer soon.  I think into late October t^

It's all about water temp and Quality.  it can be different every year..  t^

Flukeaholic our season for BFT starts in July and goes thought Oct.in Nov you see them in close when striper fishing but hard to catch when on the move, they will be moving in 20m miles or less by the end of the  month, fish tend to be smaller but there is a chance of getting a bigger fish. bait and jigs are the way to go the weather tends to get bad this time of year so keep an eye on that and be safe.

We had some Bluefins inside the 3 nm line last year into early December. It was very frustrating watching 50-100# bfts crash all around you and not eat anything - but we did manages to get a few. Hopefully Captain Rich is right and these fish will come west - these 50-60 mile rides are getting tiring.
