It started out with a cancellation call and it seemed that the day was going to be a non happening. I went back to bed for an hour or so. Got up aand decided to go anyway. To preface this report I tried out a new rig I designed you can say it is a combo of a fish-finder and a mullet rig with a twist.
Well to say I had a good day would be an understatement. Unlike Chris I got to the beach later than normal and the tide was well into becoming low tide. I was going to dead stick and relax a bit so I baited up with a muller on the new rig and headed to put the pole into the spike when I got my first slam. I tried to set the hook but not thinking I had a circle hook on it pulled right out if its mouth.
Re baited and this time I cast out and held on within a few seconds another hit this time I let him hook himself and just started reeling in a nice size blue in the 1 to 2 pound class. Well this continued for the next 2 hours till I ran out of bait. I switched over to AVA's a 007 to be exact and hooked up with 2 small bass.
What a day the tally was 11 blues up to 4 pounds, one sea robin and 2 bass. I will have to go back tomorrow and see if the rig works as well a second time. The pelicans were around again as were the pods of dolphins.
I will probably be out there mid morning as I like the fact that at low tide I can cast past the outer bar with ease and oh yeah I seemed to do better on the north sides of the cuts today than the south sides.
