Salmon River Oct 2 2010
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:49:08 AM »
The storms that came from the south this past Thursday screwed up my last trip to the Salmon River. Just to give you some info on the river, the power company runs the dam and adjusts the water level in the river. Most of the time at this time of year they run the river from 500 cfs (cubic feet per second) to 1,200 cfs. When I checked the weather on Friday morning I found they were running the river at 20,000 cfs and the river is closed to fishing. Since I fish the lower part of the river where it goes into the lake, I thought I could get out and with reports of the river going down to 6,000 cfs, we should be good. We hit the ramp at first light to find the ramp closed because it is filled with trees and things, bit it should be open around 9 am. So we went sight seeing to see what happened. WOW A wall in town came down, houses flooded Salmon swimming in parking lots and basements. The Marina at the end of the river lost all of the docks and boats sunk.

We made it out around 4pm to a spot I see fish until late October every year and not a fish to be seen or caught. I don’t know if the fish ran the river, were pushed back to the lake or made it to high ground and got stranded. All I know it was erie and a lot of fish at the hatchery. No fish, no the road to home Sunday am.
Fishing Sandy Hook and anywhere I can get on a boat.

My biggest fear is when I die my wife sells all of my fishing tackle for what she thinks I paid for it!

a lot of damage there Rick, sad about the boats at the marina, the river was a beautiful, quiet and serene area when I was up fishing with you, really hard to imagine this type of devastation there.  nosmly hopefully no one injured or killed and the cleanup goes well.  Kez

Yea Rod,
We will hook up for Stripers and I guess I have to get out west next year. Right now I am kinda burned out from driving up and back for the last 4 or 5 weekends. Can't think about 7 hours one way right now.  rgmn

I hear the river is a lot different now. We might have to spend a week next year to find the new holes. Tell the wifes we can't control mother nature, so it's something we just have to do. We will need a lot of cut rolls.  rofla
