Irish Ayes 10-23 & 24 weekend fishing
« on: October 25, 2010, 09:56:49 AM »
Saturday: Had Dave and Dennis aboard. Headed north out of SRI. Found some good readings off of Asbury Park. Jigged away and came up empty. Got word that there were fish at Axel Carleson reef. Headed that way and found a fleet of boats there. Saw come guys hook up with blues but the blues eluded our offerings.  :P

Moved around but couldn't buy a bite. Went on the troll, again nothing. Was dragging chartuese shad umbrella and stretch 25s. Had three shads come back with tails chewed off.
Can you spell S-K-U-N-K...

Sunday: Had Johnny Oz and Andy on board today. Again turned left out of SRI. Our plan was to find birds working or record good marks and jig on what was around and later anchor up for tog and porgies. Travelled all the way to Elberon (5-6 miles) before we read any good marks. Put A27's out along with other jigs and began to pull in 8-10 pound blue fish. I brought in the third fish to the boat, a 32 inch bass. NICE. Spent some more time jigging only to produce more blues. Great fighting fish, but not what we were targeting. Headed to the togging grounds.

Got to the spot we wanted to anchor on and it was already occupied. Found out later that BigAl13 was on the grady that was there. We anchored near them and watched them bring in several nice tog. Saw them release a bruiser. Class act guys.  t^

Not being where we wanted (you snooze, you loose, my bad) we could only get a slow pick going. Had several throw back tog and porgies. No bergalls but a couple of keeper porgies were in the mix.

Decided to try for some bass again after receiving a call from Eric from Harry's. Moved out to about 2 miles off the beach and found some good bird activity. Jigged on them and Johnny Oz brought in our second keeper bass along with a double header catch of bonito. One on the jig and one on the teaser. More blues also found a new home.

The jig action slowed so it was now dragging umbrella shads. Not long into the troll when Andy boats our third keeper bass.

Toll for the day, 3 bass, 2 bonito, couple of porgies and a ton of blue fish. Released some blues, out of season keeper seabass, out of season keeper fluke, short porgies and tog.

What a difference a day makes.  t^

PS, I need a new camera, mine no longer works.  :'(

Sorry bout that Joe. With all the yahoos on the air during the weekend I sometimes just monitor channel 16. I get tired of listening to all the testosterone laden idiots and their cussing all day.  :P

I should be out there Sat and Sun.  t^
