cold air, hot bite tonight 11/03
« on: November 03, 2010, 10:58:58 PM »
Took a solo trip out at 6:30 and headed straight for the tip.  Set up to drift eels and found some marks.  Dropped bait and before I could even settle in I had my first run.  It was a shorty and went right back in.  Dropped again and another shorty on almost immediately.  The bite died so I moved a little further east offshore.  Took a couple drifts and then it was game on, had a good 10 minute fight and actually had to motor myself from drifting into a buoy while fighting this one.   cfzd  Finally landed it, 35" and fat.  After a few howls and screams across the water I let that one go back to grow and make babies.  Made another move back into the bay a bit after the bite let up offshore and was back on the shorts, but did land one just over 28".  He came home with me.  Was thinking of making one more move but realized my batteries were pretty drained so I played it safe and headed back in at 9:30.

Still Running was bloodied.  Coast Guard was out there boarding boats in the dark.  I was surprised to see that.  Make sure you guys have all your flares and extinguishers up to date if you're still heading out there.

Just an FYI, I was drifting the north side of the channel right at the tip, just south of Flynn's.  Eels were the offered entree.
