Buddy Rick and I went down to the MS inlet early this morning and watched boat after boat go out and turn around and come right back in. We decided that it was a bit too rough, so we would sit it out and see what happened. We left the inlet and went down to the dock to see what was going on; which was NOTHING. We sat it out for an hour and at 8:30 we decided to poke our noses out and see if it was doable.
Boy were we glad we did. We got out of the inlet to find 6ft rollers, not too bad and definitely fishable. Spoke to a friendly capt on 68 and he told us the birds we busting at the Axel. So off we headed.
Fished from 9 to 10:30, caught 5 bass (kept our limit) and 1 bluefish. All the bass were between 12 and 16 lbs. No idea on the bluefish, but he was big.
All fish were caught jigging (diamond jigs one with a green tail, one without.) In 70 ft of water..
Was back at the dock by 11:15. Great morning on the water.
