Bucktails That Snag Less-Has anyone used these ?
« on: July 16, 2007, 07:57:09 AM »
Found these bucktails on the net that are supposed to snag less on the rocks.Weight is upfront causing them to lift when jigged

Sounds great but has anyone used them?

I've bought some stuff from that site and wasn't too impressed.

If you're looking for a bucktail that snags less than lets say a Spro style then go with a banana head jig/bucktail.

I was turned on to these a few years back when I fluke fished with one of the best fluke charter captains in Rhode Island. We were holding bottom in 45+' of water using 2 ounce banana head bucktails and absolutely banging the fluke. Between three of us we put 100+ fluke in the boat (75 over 17"s biggest at #5.5) the first year I fished with him inside Naragansette Bay and the following year we put over 110 fluke (70 over 17"s-biggest at #6) fishing Noman's Island.

Can post a picture of one later tonight for those of you who don't know what they look like.

I got this picture from the site that was provided. It was under bucktail jigs.

Those are them.

Best place I seem to find them are at the fishing expos/outdoor shows over the winter.

I like to glue on eyes to make them alittle more life like.

The shape of the leadhead and the placement of the eye pretty much assures you that the hook will lie point up and the jig will bounce off any underwater obstruction.

They snag like any other jighead or bucktail in my opinion.  One spot I fish from shore, you're guaranteed to lose jigs everytime.  My rod builder ties them up for me.  Good action on them, but don't think they snag any less.

They mention the round head one on that linked site, think they'll snag too.  THe price we pay to buck up some fish ;)
