Met Anthony at 10 pm on Fri night.
My friend John picked both of us up at 10:30 pm.
The 3 of us were extremely excited to make the trip to Montauk
There was no traffic & we arrived at Montauk Marine Basin at 1:15 am.The marina was covered with snow & ice ! The 3 of us got out of John's Blazer & went over and looked at the boat. The boat was covered with ice ! We went back to John's blazer and the 3 of us sang songs to one another
At 2 am Capt Scott Schafer arrived. We stayed out of Capt Scott's way and once he got everything set up we got our gear & loaded our stuff on The Sea Spray.Capt Scott gave my group the stern. We looked down at everyone & it felt like we were on a stage
The 5 of us were on top of the world ! After we got our spots in the stern Capt Scott says Art there is room for your crew in the wheel house.Let me tell you the 5 of us rode in style.Heat,Cushioned seats,Card table & plenty of room to store your gear under the seating.Once we were settled in I turned to Capt Scott and I asked him how long was the ride to the fishing grounds were.Capt Scott replied 1 hr & 45 minutes.
Mate Doug took the dock lines off at 3 am and we were on the way to the Cod Grounds.
Once we got there Capt Scott found what he was looking for and dropped the anchor.
Capt Scott says lines in.
My friend Dave landed a keeper Cod as soon as he hit bottom.
From that time on the Cod were chewing.I boated 4 keepers in no time.
John,Anthony,Wayne, & Dave were all catching as well.Once we lost the tide the bite shut down.
The first spot yielded quite a few keepers but lots of short cod.Capt Scott says guys now is the time to eat.We are going to move & find them again.Capt Scott moved around and found the bait again & we started catching.
Once the Sun came up the bite picked up.
The 2nd spot that we fished the Cod were bigger.
It was cold but let me tell you the catching was good so you warmed up
At 12 noon the 5 of us caught over 125 cod !
The 5 of us had 36 keepers.
Anthony,Wayne,John & myself all used Bait & Dave jigged & used bait !
A great trip was had !
Capt Scott & Mate Doug both worked the deck.
At 1 pm we were on our way back to Montauk Marine.
With no sleep for over 24 hrs the 5 of us felt like we were Jerry Lewis doing the Telethon
Next trip is Sat Jan 29 & I have a few open spots if you are interested.
PM me for details.
