$3.00 rod chuck
« on: March 28, 2011, 10:26:20 AM »
With the project I'm working on, I needed to devise a way to attach a rod to my rotisserie motor, and this is what I came up with.  Cost about 3 bucks and is made up of a 2" threaded PVC adapter, a 2" cleanout cap, 3 thumbscrews, a 1/4" bolt, 2 nuts, and 2 washers.  The rotisserie motor has a square drive in it, so I had to take the hex head bolt to the grinder and square it off to fit.  The thumbscrews were tapped into the adapter to center the rod during spinning.  Should work well and was very cheap to make.

I tried to use a cantaloupe, 3 dimes, and a pair of my wife's panties, but it didn't work too well.  I had to suck it up and go to Home Depot.

Jason,
Looks great. Some advise. Take three rubber band (one around each wing nut) and wrap around blank or whatever you are tuning. I had a similar set up and occasionly the wing nut would back up while turning overnight and your epoxy job gets ruined.  t^

Thanks for the tip Phil!  Was hoping for some of your insight on this.  My biggest fear is the whole contraption slipping off the motors drive and just sitting there, not turning.  I plan to do a test run overnight before I break out the epoxy.
