« on: April 30, 2011, 10:34:26 AM »
Is it NOW mandatory to register ??

Is it free to register ?( like last year )

Do you still have to register if you registered last year ?

Q 1 - Yes

Q 2 - Sort of

Q 3 - Yes

1 = It is mandatory to register, however, 'it has been said' that the state will not enforce it, they will be issueing warnings.

2 = It will be free when the state finalizes the registry and has it approved by the feds. This is supposed to happen within the next couple of days.

3 = Your last year's registry is good for one calander year. Check the date of expiration on your old card.

The bill providing for a free registry was passed a few months ago.  However, NJ has still not implemented a system to register.  They have until, I believe, May 20th or so to get this done.

Like Bob said. It was approved, etc.

I said 'sort of' because it was passed by the state but it won't be free until they finalize it. If you register with the feds you will be charged $15.  :P
