In addition to providing game fish for the sporting public, the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife's Hackettstown Hatchery has been involved in the fight against mosquitos for the past 20 years. The program is supported by the state Mosquito Control Commission and the Bureau of Fresh Water Fisheries, which raises the fish that are used as bio control agents.
This year, the Bureau is providing its three millionth fish, offering them to participating counties at no cost. They have been stocked at sites in all 21 counties since the program's inception.
