Manasquan Inlet shut down due to capsized scallop boat...
« on: May 11, 2011, 12:59:13 PM »
From NJ.com

MANASQUAN — Three people have been rescued from a scallop boat that capsized in the Manasquan Inlet this morning, according to the Coast Guard.

The 70-foot Atlantic Traveler sent out a distress call at 4:53 a.m. after experiencing mechanical problems. Minutes later the Coast Guard rescued three crew members with a 47-foot Motor Life Boat.

News 12 reported the captain was briefly trapped aboard the vessel as 10-foot waves hit it.

The Coast Guard identified the three men aboard the boat as William Hill, 58, of Brick, Matthew Morris, 19, of Point Pleasant and William A. Lewis, 30, of Marshallberg, N.C.

The ship's hydraulic hose broke and the crew lost its clutch and steering and was drifting towards the rocks, the Coast Guard said.

The 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard the boat are leaking into the water. The boat is blocking the entrance to the inlet, which remains closed, News 12 said.

The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea.

crazy how fast it happens...

same thing almost happened to the F/V Northwestern on the deadliest catch the other night

they lost power and were drifting towards the dock in heavy swells

all because of a overheated generator

Wow. Glad everyone's ok.

Really sucks for the party and charter fleet not being able to get out and make money.
