Snappers

Tonight my father and I went out for a few hours while waiting for the bridge in morgan a ton of snappers were breaking the surface. I was throwing a snapper zapper and did not get anything. can anyone give me some advice as to other methods. thank you.

The best rig for snappers is a cane pole 12 feet of line, bobber, a small snell hook and a killie.  Can't beat it, the most fun I ever had...

If they were breaking and you weren't catching, good chance they were not snappers, but peanut bunker.

depends what time u were there and  were  u going out to bay if so those peanut  outside in bay snapper were there all day ... i used a diamond jig 2 oz tossed it out and just reeled it in caught  about 2 doz of them 8"-6".

Usually the quickest easiest way is with the sabiki rig.

Snapper poppers are fun as well as bobber/spearing...great to introduce the lil ones with these methods.

Where I've been seeing them, they're still small and either being caught in cast nets or on the sabiki.  Chasing lots of small spearing and tiny peanut bunker.  Oh, and they're starting to get chased now by some fanged fish

If catching snappers for bait I prefer a sabiki rig.

Catching snappers for fun, Kastmaster, Snapper Zapper or spearing under a bobber.

why the difference, because the catching snapper son a Sabiki rig doesn't harm them as much as say a treble hook on a Kastmaster or being hooked deeply on a piece of spearing.

Those are snappers they were there yest and today  right at the inlet. They were chasing sperring and the birds were going NUTS.. I used a popper to grab a few  and some reason they love the diamond jig with the white tube catch more on that when they in that feeding frenzy.

I was inside of the railroad bridge right by the old spye marina yesterday and they wouldnt take the snapper zapper...so my guess is that they were in fact peanuts

yea you were prolly right  next to my boat thats where i dock it at! peanuts havent come in yet over there  plenty of sperring. The snappers  prolly about 20 yd circle of them working in the inlet tonite and more between bridges.. now marina side there  is a few not as much as outside. I was playing with them  tonite at 530pm from back of my boat using a  diamond jig 2 oz/.

Use any small shiney metal lure.  Use the snapper for big Fluke.     Little Daredevils, Hobkins, Diamond Jig's, Ava's...etc...or plane old snapper hooks with spearing!

the ones i was catching were like small trout size 8" or so kinda big for fluke.. Boy id love to  get a fluke that eats an 8" snapper mmmmmmmmmm
