My best day on the water this year, Wed 06/29
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:07:29 PM »
Ok ok ok, not for the fishing.  I have this week off with my son.  After Sesame Place, the zoo, the park, and tons of fun playing at home too, my better half said I should take today for myself and get some fishing in.  But the best part was this past Monday, my son tugged my shirt out of the blue and said "daddy I want to go on the boat, because I'm not scared of the engine anymore".  So the plan was we'd all go down to the boat together, see how he liked it before I finally went fishing and they went to the boardwalk for rides and games and ice cream.

So the life preserver went on, he walked down the dock with head high, got a little timid when I fired up the old two stroke but he steadied himself, and out of the slip slowly we went and puttered up the channel towards the sailboats and back.  He had a blast "steering" and honking the horn a couple times, and even liked when we got waked by a passing boater.  Gentleman, one of my lifelong dreams began today when I got to share my love of boating with my son for the first time in his life.  Before I know it he'll be pulling up the doormats and giant cows that eludes his daddy.  I would be lying if I said there wasn't a little precipitation in the eyes.  Rick (Still Running), this was the single reason I purchased your boat and I can't thank you enough.  I wanted a boat that was right for me and my family.  I hope you get a little satisfaction in knowing that "Still Running" is still making memories and running strong.

And when he went off for his games, I took a good long rewarding run out to the SH reef, picked tons and tons of shorts in a stiff breeze, but was rewarded with one solid keeper at 25 inches.  Dinner enough for the 3 of us when I was home by 6.  Hopefully I can get a picture up of me and my little Captain to be soon, but for now I'm floating on air.  A great rewarding day in what has been one great rewarding week.

Great report clp

This is what fishing is REALLY all about. Brings back memories of me fishing with my dad at age 6 on the Long Branch fishing pier catching porgies. What wonderful times.

We need more posts like this and forget all the "numbers" games anglers. This is why I do what I do now for a living. Enough of the corporate bull****.

Glad to here it's Still Running and making memories for you guys. Just one tip Mike. Don't blink your eyes, it goes very fast.
I did the same with my son and I remember the day if got his boating license. It was cool to let him do the Capt thing.

Enjoy and thanks for the report.  t^

When my sons we younger I took them fishing when I could. They enjoyed it but they really didn't love it.  Now my oldest is 21 and he wants to go fishing all the time.  In fact I should be getting a text from him anytime today saying "what day are we going this weekend." Great job and enjoy - Bend a tree when its young. t^

My dad got me hooked on fishing 50 years ago. We still fish together whenever we can and it's the only thing my brother, dad and I ever agree on.  TT^

Outstanding Report, I have three son's 25,24,18 all brought up on the boat. From clamming, crabbing, and fishing they learned it all. My oldest son today works on a tug boat, I must have done something right. You know was is amazing, my dad did the same thing with me. Keep it up, there is nothing better. clp

Mike...thats a great story and a great day.....i always remember my first trips with my dad...6 years old with him and it seemed like it was just the 2 of us existing in the world...everything else was drowned out by his presence and him showing me how to fish...fishing jamaica bay bridge for winter flounder...always knew it was almost time to go home when the SST would come overhead to land at JFK...i dont have him around anymore but im sure he is fishing the blue up above with KEZ SR. Somewhere....as Dennis said...dont blink. It all seems like yesterday to me...and i will cherish the trip i bring my son on this year (IF MY BOAT EVER GETS FIXED)
Mike...thanks for the stroll down memory lane bro t^ t^

That's some good stuff right there! Get em started when they're young but make sure they are ready, like your son let you know he was ready.  chrz chrz
