Cape May Park Pond 7-1-11
« on: July 01, 2011, 05:58:37 PM »
Well it's my last day down here and I pretty much gave up on trying to catch a fish in the bay. I didn't want to go home empty handed though so I checked the NJ places to fish page and found a place about 20 minutes away from where I was staying. Headed over to the B&T, got some nightcrawlers and was off. The 20 minute ride turned into about 45 cause I got lost but eventually I made it to the pond. Found a little brush pile and started catching bluegills and pumpkinseeds left and right. Nothing more than about 7" though. Then all of a sudden I hook up with a sunnie and a giant bass hits it. It takes off straight for the brush pile and snaps my line. Fast-forward about 30 minutes and I hook up with a sunnie and another bass hits it. This time I think I hook up with it and I'm bringing it in close and I see this thing, 5 pounds at least. I get him about 4 feet from the bank, he spits the sunnie out and swims off. I don't think I ever even hooked him, he probably just held on to the sunnie. Another 30 minutes goes by and I'm out of bait. I still had that big bass in my head so I put on a 5" rapala husky jerk and started working it around the pile. A few casts later I catch a bass but not exactly the size I wanted. Next cast, a 9" black crappie. This was my first ever crappie so I was pretty happy with it. A couple minutes go by and I hook up with a monster fish again. It felt just like the 5 pounder I lost an hour earlier, unfortunately I didn't even have him on the line for more than 5 seconds before he spit the hook. Then the fat lady sang and I was off to the house to shower and hit the boardwalk with my friends. They're actually waiting for me while I write this so I should probably finish up now. I'm still mad I lost those big bass and I would definatly give this place another shot if it wasn't 2.5 hours from my actually house in Bayonne. O'well, tight lines guys.
