The Yahoo & my anchor rode
« on: July 03, 2011, 07:45:55 AM »
Well, by the title, you already know where this is going.

After an afternoon trip to drift for some Fluke, and putting 4 keepers into the box, I set up on anchor off of the beach in front of Manasquan to barbeque up some dinner and wait for the fireworks display.

Sausage and pepper sandwichs hit the spot, then 5 minutes prior to the show, Yahoo cruses along right into my rode. Tangled good, anchor is holding both boats, keeping him about 20 feet off of my bow. Had to watch the show with one eye on the sky, another on him, boat hook in hand in case I had to fend off the other boat.

He called his Tow Boat US, who arrived on scene. I had to untie my rode so they could free the rope from the prop without cutting it, stating they (the boat owner) would pay for everything. Well, when they were done, they just let the end of my rope go! Gone, 300 ft of rope, 15 feet of chain, 2 shackles, anchor, and the brand new length markers I had just measured and weaved into the rope the same day! Then everyone just left! I chased them back into the inlet, where the tow boat captian stated he would help me get paid, gave me his name and number, but would provide no other infromation, the other boat was gone.

The other boat would only provide a name and phone number, no other info as required by law, it was too dark and rough to read the reg numbers from his vessel. I will be making a few calls today, any advise to help me recover on my loss?  5hrug   <'((((><

Was it the tow boat operator who released your anchor rode? If so, they would be the first I would speak to. They would also have the info on the other boater.

Advise your insurance company of the situation also. Perhaps they can get involved and get your $$$ from either the tow boat company or the other boat operator.

Sure sucks that some people gotta be jackholes.

Try calling the number, give them the benefit of the doubt and the chance to make it right.  Zabasearch.com with the name and state, can help you narrow it down. IF it was a real name.

Other than that, you know the towboat would have their real info; if they will share it is another story. Might need to escalate to LE altho I hardly EVER recommend doing that; they could compel towboat to give them the info but it may just not be worth it in the long run...

Thanks for the advise guys. After a a short game of phone tag, the other boat owner is going to meet up with me tomorrow evening to settle things up. Still are some nice guys in big boats left out there. Turns out the rope was tangled/wrapped up good in BOTH of his props, cutting was the only option. <'((((><

Wow. The other guy knows he is pinned and its just a matter of time before you catch  up with him. Asking plenty of questions and contacting the Tow Boat people for the response time, number and names will produce good evidence to supply to the marine police.

2nd Post.... Glad to see it is all working out.
