Welcome RK!  Lots of people on the list that fish Mantaloking Bridge, PP Canal and Mansquan Inlet.  Also good amount of people that surf fish in the Central to Northern OC Area.

Good Luck.

Looks like a croaker mouth though...with kingfish stripes, right??  Maybe they crossbred??  Could just be the juvenile markings of the croaker 5hrug.

Definitely had a croaker mouth, which is quite different from a kingfish.  Haven't seen thick stripes like that on them before, but it could be because they are still younger fish.  It does look very similar to kingfish markings though...I vote again for a Barnegat Bay crossbreed/inbred croaker rofla!

Looks just like a seabass to me. The mouth, scales, shape, etc. Would like to see the tail to be absolutely positive, but I've seen enough to be 99.9% positive.  TT^
Can't really say that I have seen a kingfish, so I could not identify one of them.  ;D

Welcome Aboard RKLindner,

You will find out that the more you fish the more your odds are that you will catch a fish.  One big piece of advice I can give is patience, patience and more patience.

Try tried and true methods and learn by listening to what others have done to alter those methods and have caught fish.  One thing what caught fish today does not mean it will catch fish tomorrow, but something real close will.  Learn to experiment with what you have by changing colors, bait, speed of retrieval and anything else that could make the presentation seem just a little different.

Do not be afraid to ask questions that is what we are here for.  Good Luck

Happy Catching

Paul

Thank you (also Pfishingruven) for the welcome here.  I have also fished lakes before so I do understand the patience part! ::)  I enjoy fishing for the relaxation and the thrill when you do get one on the line.  My partner and I will get a dozen killies from the local b&t and go spend an hour or so after dinner.  Guess with it getting dark earlier, I'm going to need to make that before dinner or bring a flashlight.  I'm sure I'll meet someone from here soon down there.

Well, after deciding not to take the boat out today, me and my dad went over to the bridge with a box of worms and my arsenal of artificials.

Fished off of the bridge from 1400-1630. Using sandworms on a hi-lo with #2 baitholder hooks, we managed to land 11 sea bass to 10", two blackfish (10", 11") three small kingfish, one bluefish, three short porgies and a spot.   Had a great time while not getting anything for the table. sorry, no pics.
