Hey Rod thanks for the help.
I think I could be a really good people person if wasn't for the people.

I'm not catching any more fish, but I'm starting to learn why I'm not catching any more fish.

Hey Greg,

I know it's been awhile since anyone posted on here but since I just got back from Avalon I thought I'd see if we can get it going again.  I was there monday to wednesday fishing the mouth of the inlet, which was a total bust, and various other places on the south end of the island.  It wasn't a real productive trip for me, but seeing as I actually caught stuff it was far better then any other I left happy.  I was getting allot of hits on the sea wall leading up to the mouth of the inlet but I couldn't hook up on anything but once I changed to smaller hooks it was game on.  Tons of dogfish, a small blue, and a small sea bass there, then down around 80th st picked up more of the same plus a few robins and an eel.  Squid seemed to be working the best but they would eat clam, minnows, and live bunker.  I was going for fluke but I just can't seem to find them.  This old guy, who called himself Santa Clause, was pulling them out left and right, even a 15lbs cow nose ray, only feet away from me.  I was using the same bait, he would give me bunker and I'd give him minnows, and casting within two feet of where he was but still nothing.  They'd occasionally hit it but only as a tease because they were always short strikes.  Anyone else been down to the big A lately?

I was in Avalon from Aug 19th to the 23rd. I can honestly say that I was the sandshark king out of the surf. I caught at least three a day. I had my young son with me, so I could only fish from the surf. I'm not sure how the jetty was doing by Townsends inlet. I had heard reports that guys were catching kings cause the water had warmed up.

Just got back from hitting one of my favorite striper haunts in Avalon. It's a grouping of lit docks about a half mile south from the mouth of the inlet. I was there Mon. evening and got one schoolie on a 3/8 white bucktail with a green back rain fish from Vision. I normally do pretty good with 4" pink or chartreuse Storm Shads there, but they had lockjaw on them Mon. evening. Tonight was a different story. Got there and within ten mins. of starting up a pretty heavy little storm rolled through chasing me and my buddy back to the truck for awhile. We started back up as soon as the lightning slacked off. There was loads of bait in the water, and they were getting smashed, but we couldn't get anything to bite. I threw the tackle box at 'em to no avail. Normally when the pressure drops and a storm whips up, it's hard to keep 'em off the line, but not tonight. Speaking of which, got another storm rollin through. Gonna shut the computer down for a bit.
 Tight lines to ya.

Just got back from my aforementioned spot. Got there right at sundown. The tide had already switched out, but hadn't picked up full steam. Picked up another striper around 22" on a Tsunami 5" split tail in Mullet/Black back, not five minutes after I got there. Wasn't a heck of a lot of bait in the water, not nearly as much as earlier in the week. I stuck around for another hour or so and got my lure smacked a few more times, but no more bass. I stopped by the public dock at Smuggler's cove on the way off the island to cast a few there. A couple of guys that were there had reported picking up some Sea Bass and one guy had caught a Sea Robin while I was there. No bait to speak of in the water under the lights there, and a couple of throws in the cast net yielded only a few peanuts and yearling blues.

Went out back in Avalon on the incoming high tide with bloodworms and got skunked. Moved to the jetty with clam to see what was around...nothing. haha just had to get out though. after that 70+ friday my fishing bug started acting up. oh well, few more weeks...
