Pillot 9/30 - Nice mixed bag - Bluefish, PokeChops, CB's and TOGGG

Been anxious to get out to scrape the bottom stuff.  last three trips after Irene have been pretty much a bust with nothing but short fluke, doggies and Ritchies.  Today's crew included Capt's Don jr and Don Sr and the Danny P AkA the Black Russian.   We had plenty of clam and Greenies.  Checked out the beds on the outside behind a dragger for a bit but pulled a donut!   Headed south toward the reef to find a plenty of birds working baitfish getting destroyed by 3-4lb blues.  The boys cracked out the metal and ended up putting a half dozen in the basket.  Motored to our target zone and had a tough time getting the hook to bite. Finally sunk the spike on the third shot.   

Dan, the Black Russian, menaced the sea bass with consistency.  Down right crazy drop and reel. He'd put a chunk of clam on and it would no sooner hit bottom and he's cranking another one up.  Shame that everyone went back to rubble.  Don Sr and I got off to a slow start although the pace picked up for us both later.  Donnie stroked the new Seeker like an old girl friend. Sweet tune-up to the extended season as he found a good handful of quality Tog to 6.5LBs.  Don Sr got his fill of porkchops putting a half dozen in the cart and found his groove with a couple nice CBs.  I had a late flurry of CBs after a slight adjustment on the hook and finally found my first tog for the season.    Clams produced better than the Greenies.  It looks like the beginnning of a great fall season.  Now we just have to get a few stripers in the mix to round things out!
