Pilot 10/2 More Porgies, CBsm short Tog - Late report
« on: October 03, 2011, 08:22:36 PM »
Had Nick C Aka Nickshaw, Rich, Chris and Steve O with Capt Don Jr. to try for some Stripers.  Planned on eeling, clamming or a jig bite but it never materialized.  We worked the SH channel edges on some decent marks but couldn't get a sniff. Made our way toward the reef in a slight bumpy ride on the way south.  To pass the time the boys were in rare form breaking each others nut sacks. Steve O was the focus of abuse.  Poor dude was feeling a tad green but managed to hold off pitching.  Birds were working at the Highland bridge area and we took a shot throwing artificals.   A couple of small spikes for our effort.   So here we are with nothing to show for our 2 hour investment. ???   Time to switch up the game plan.....  Planted the hook on the reef and immediate signs of life!  Brothers Rich and Chris started to spank the CB's and plate sized Porgies while Nick (AKA Mr. Competitiion) got downright flustered trying to figure out the timing on his swing. Jack and Coke will put you at a major disadvantage everytime!  He finally settled in with lighter tackle.   Meanwhile, Steve O slept off the motion sickiness and (I'm fairly certain) the night befores residual buzz.

We ended up running through a half a bushel of clam throwing about 30 CBs back to the drink, a half dozen short tog and kept a dozen porks for the skillet.  Tried all kind of Gulp (crab, shrimp, mullet) after running through the clam but they clearly wanted fresh bait.   Pulled the hook and tried for the stripes on the way back under working birds, in the rips and alongside rock piles to no avail.   Not a bad day but couldn't raise the target fish.

Guys the entertainment was incredible! Thanks for a good trip!  Better days ahead t^
