Line on a Can
« on: October 05, 2011, 07:56:22 AM »
Just something to ponder....

As a young fella I spent a lot of time in the Bahamas fishing with my uncle...kinda easy when your mother was born there...Tackle has progressed for me just like television and computers...

My rig back then, either off a boat or on a dock, a coffee can with rolled up line on it...of course a sinker and a hook...lol...

I am seriously considering doing this again just for nostalgia reasons...

Still the preferred method in many parts of Asia - local fishermen laugh at me with my tackle boxes full of equipment.
I FISH therefore I am.

Agreed...funny when the guy with the line on the can catches more than you with your custom tackle and enough gear to warrant a pack horse... ;D

I can remember using nuts that we found along the railroad tracks for sinkers.

I was at a party in college a couple years ago and made a bet with a friend that I could catch a fish without a rod and reel. We stumbled down to takanasee. I took a windmill hot dog with me and a flashlight. I found a tangle of line in a bush and a rusty hook. Put the hot dog on the hook and flipped it out about 10 feet. Before I could even crack a beer I had an arm length channel cat struggling on the other end. I must have hit him right in the head. I was a fishing super star in the eyes of my friend after that. That was a fun night
