"EverEnough"s Striper/porgie trip....
« on: October 09, 2011, 10:25:32 PM »
Headed out around 9ish with a 1/2 bussel o clams an 2 box o worms.Rounded the hook and set up behind clamers {hooked}. First runoff was a short that spit da hook at boatside.@nd runoff was just that...a runoff... after 2 hours or so we pulled hook to drift......Nothing but GIANT searobins.

Ran to our porgie grounds 45 imnutes later nothing...Headed to romar {hooked again} and after 1.5 hours...nothing. NOT even a nibble nada zip...

Around 230ish said fooey lets do porgies ran to the same spot but went 15 yards east....Fishin turned in to catching the second we put the bait(clams/worms}down.. Porgies, seabass, fluke, blackfish, robins (HUGE they were) and our first EVER blowfish me and michy got one each..they are awesome..never seen one in person let alone catchin one...

at the end of the day we kept 12 porgies released every fish there after(for next time)...We had about 100 fish over the rail's today and the weather was just beautiful.......

I knew it!  You went right by me when I was anchored at Romer.  Your wife waved back to me but you were looking the other way.  I recognized you from pics you've posted.  Tried to hail you a couple times but I think you were long gone by them.

I got the skunk.  I focused solely on Stripers though and only brought clams to the party.  Romer was dead as can be.  I made a move around the hook to the clam beds.  Ended up in a sea of bunker, but there was really nothing underneath them.  Threw some metals and plugs hoping to invite the blues, but nothing there.  Had to get back in to catch the Jets debacle, not sure why I even bothered.

Engine is solid.  There's a slight hesitation when it switches from 4-6 cylinders at about1500 RPM's, but it always jumps up.  Jimmy suspects it might be the shift switch or a clogged VST.  I'm leaning towards the VST, which are notorious on HPDI's. Gonna try cleaning it out with Carb cleaner first and then change it out beginning next season. But I'm getting about 2-3 times better fuel consumption and about 8-10 mph gain at cruise.  I went from Keyport to the shrewsbury rocks and back last weekend in the snot, and burned about 15 gallons of fuel.  The old engine would easily burn about 30-40 gallons in the same conditions on a trip that long.

I pondered switching over to the porgies, but I'm a stubborn bastard hahaha.  Iwill definitely let you know about the VST.  Thanks again!

t^  Nice mixed bag you put together.  I was out on the clam beds on Sunday too.  I got there just as the Fisherman was pulling anchor to head south. I did manage to land two keepers and lots of those jumbo robins.
