anyone who makes jigs READ

hey guys i am going to start making jigs and wanted to know if this would work. I was going to use plaster as a mold using an old butterfly jig to make the shape and then pour lead into it with a one piece metal rod for the loops on each side tell me hoe this would work thanks

Not sure of your concept, if the metal rods are like vents to let the gases out from one jig to another it might work but the problem I see would be keeping the plaster hot enough (without cracking)and as not to cool down the lead or what ever metal you are using allowing it to flow.

I did a lot of casting in gold and non precious metals and the weak link in the system always was the mold material.  In my case a form of plaster only it was cured at around 1800 degrees or so.

well im going to do some research on cool mold material but the rod is for the two little loop things on each end of the jig u put ur split and solid rings on kk

At your age.  I wouldn't be working with lead...

Why not use ceramic for your mold?

Not sure if it's even worth it to go through all that hassle and exposing yourself to lead fumes when you can buy those jigs for $5.
