Rounded the hook before 5 pm and headed south to get out of the wind. Anchored up in the clam beds on some nice marks and had fish on for at least an hour. Lots of shorts and run offs. Put 2 keepers in the box to 32" and threw a couple barely lagals back thinking it would be fish on for a while, but it shut down just like that and we started catching the biggest skates I have ever seen. I guess we were masterskating! LOL We hung in there for about an hour but it was a waste of bait. Went over to romers and got the crap beat out of us for about an hour. Ran around looking and dropping here and there but it was over. Wish we had grabbed some eels or worms.
Sat morning I headed out solo and dropped the hook at same spot as last night by 5am. No one out there and lots of life. Nothing but small skates. The clam boats came in and they sat right on my lap and I thought that that would do it but all that happened was dogfish. Just as soon as the clammers started working. Sat it out for a while then ran around looking and found myself at the rocks. With 200 other boats. Nothing doing there, tried the jig and a little clam. headed back to the marina slowly looking the whole time. Marked tons of bait all over. water looks about 59-60 degrees. Good luck to the Hi-Mar guys.
