Raritan Bay NOAA Forecast
« on: November 01, 2011, 06:20:28 AM »
Which NOAA forecast is used for Raritan Bay? Is New York Harbor the closet one to use? I am looking to head out Wednesday and want to be sure to check the right forecast.

If u do the weather channel 1  on vhf...It will say the raritan bay.. The new york harbour one is also good to l;isten to, expecially if ur gonna fish the L house or spots close there.

When we try and plan a trip, we listen to them. Also the one where they say fire island inlet to sandy hook nj, out 20 nm. We also watch the weather channel #49 {fios} up top it says boat/beach. Altho no forecast is perfect,we found this one the closest.

Thanks. I am talking about the text NOAA reports. I am near Philadelphia and don't get great VHF reception. I want to go out tomorrow and the NY Harbor report looks good but the Fire Island to SH report is bad.

Ummmmm  :headscra: i dont know where to find the text one? Maybe check on this site, at the bottom of the fourm section. New york harbour is past the varazano bridge. Maybe type it in a search engine Sandy hook bay marine forecast???? Take them all in to consideration. If they all say somen different average the wave heights together...Ex. Like one says 2-3 another says 1-2 and last one says 1-3 ft id average it to 2 feet.

You would use the New York Harbor forcast. It covers Sandy Hook Bay, Raritan Bay and west of the Varazanno t^

Thanks, Capt Joe! So, looking at that report it should be decent even though there's a north wind? I'd hope to haul up some striped ones. Again, I'm fishing a 23' WA - would you fish tomorrow there?

In my experience, the raritan is usually about right in the middle in terms of conditions.  If ny harbor says 1-2 and offshore says 4-6 your usually gonna see 3 footers in the middle of the bay.  Just a very basic rule of thumb.
The cure for everything is salt water: sweat, tears, and the sea.
